About the Founders
MediClinic has been set up to augment the reach of patients to the right clinician and / or diagnostic tools in their quest for relief when suffering from a disease or a disability. It also provides a robust platform and a reliable partner to corporates for their Pre-employment health-checks, periodical health-check of workers and executives, onsite health-checks to mining and cement industry, health-checks for chemical workers, tests and vaccinations for food handlers of high-end hotels and restaurants, etc.
MediClinic is set up by an unique set of promoters, a husband and wife team of Dr Shantanu Kumar Barua, a senior practicing Radiologist and Dr Basobi Barua, a well-known Dermatologist, also having an enterprising entrepreneurship background with the following successful healthcare ventures:
1. Skylab Diagnostic Centre (now Agilus Diagnostics – Skylab) – Dr Shantanu Kumar Barua has been the Co-promoter and Managing Director of this Diagnostic centre, set up in 1990. It was the first and pioneering Diagnostic centre in the whole of Eastern India. This company was acquired by Piramal Diagnostics in 2007, and later became a part of SRL Diagnostics, now renamed Agilus.
2. Institute of Dermatology & Cosmetology (Skin Centre) – Both Dr Barua and Dr (Mrs) Barua are Directors and founders of this unique institution, having set this up along with another reputed Dermatologist. This Institution is a pioneering centre of excellence in modern Skin Care and Cosmetic facilities.
3. Nucleomed Imaging – Dr Barua has been the Managing Partner and founder of this medical centre, the one and only Nuclear Medicine centre with SPECT and PET-CT facilities in the entire North East region.
4. Oncquest Laboratories – Guwahati : This lab was initially started as a franchisee of the Gurgaon-based renowned Pathology services company with pan-India footprint. In the midst of the Covid-pandemic, however, this lab was taken on lease by the parent company Oncquest laboratories Ltd, and is now being managed locally by Dr Barua as its Lab Director.
5. Apex Medical Systems- This is a medical supplies firm which was setup in 2002 and has already achieved wide penetration in the regional healthcare market of the North East. It supplies equipment and consumables to health establishments, both govt and private, in the realm of Lab diagnostics, Radiology, Surgicals, Hospital disinfectants de-humidifiers for both medical and industrial use.
