Core Biopsy (USG)

A core biopsy (usg) is a standard medical procedure where a doctor uses ultrasound to guide a needle into the problem tissue to get a sample for further study. This is mainly used as a technique to study if a tumor is cancerous, but has other uses as well.

This extracted tissue is then analysed through a cytological examination and a diagnosis is given.

Preparation and Procedure

The doctor may advise you not to take certain medicines the day before the procedure. Ask them if the procedure will require sedation in which case you might need help getting home.

During the day of the procedure, wear loose-fitting clothes and try to refrain from wearing jewellery. If you are wearing any when you arive at the clinic, you might need to take your jewellery off.

After the procedure is done, take rest and do not physically exert yourself. If the doctor has advised any further instructions, follow them as well.
