Echocardiography

Echocardiography is a special test that uses an ultrasound machine to look at the structure and functions of the heart. It helps the doctor to see if the size of the heart has changed, there are any blood clots, any fluid or pressure buildup or any problems with the chambers and valves. It can also be used to look at the muscles of the heart. This shows any damage or defects that might be the cause of heart attacks or heart problems.
Preparation and Procedure
During the procedure, the patient will have to undress from the waist up. They will have to remove any jewellry or items that might affect the echo results. The doctor will attach electrodes to the chest of the patient and then move the probe around the area to record the sound waves of the heart. This produces the image that is looked at for a diagnosis.
