Guided FNAC (USG)

Guided FNAC (USG) is a diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound to guide an aspiration needle into a mass or tissue to get some cells for further testing.

Primarily used to test for cancer, it can also be used to diagnose other conditions regarding lumps or swelling.

Preparation and Procedure

The Guided FNAC (USG) test does not have any specific preparations although your doctor might recommend some things to do before the test. Basic protocols to follow might be to wear comfortable clothing and inform your doctor about any medications you are taking.

During the procedure, the area to be studied will be numbed with an agent. The doctor will then use ultrasound to guide an aspiration needle into the area and take out some cells. This is later studied by a cytologist and a diagnosis can be given.
