OPG (Orthopantomography)

An OPG or orthopantomogram is a panoramic x-ray image of the two jaws and the teeth. It is primarily used in the dental profession to look for caries and polyps, infections or fractures.
It can also be recommended by a general medicine doctor to look at sinus health and if any infections are happeing to see how far it has spread.
Preparation and Procedure
Before the procedure the patient has to remove any jewelry or metal objects they have on them. An x-ray technician will be there to position the patient for the x-ray. The patient will be asked to either sit or lie down on the x-ray table. The machine will then be rotated around the patient’s face to get a full picture of the jaws. The technician may ask the patient to change their position in order to capture a better image.
