Fibroscan

Fibroscan is a non-invasive diagnostic device that is able to scan the patient’s liver. Doctor’s may recommend this test if they want to know the condition of a patient’s liver for different conditions such as liver scarring, cirrhosis, Hepatitis or genetic diseases.

The device uses high-frequency sound waves to take an image of the liver that is similar to an ultrasound.

Preparation and Procedure

A Fibroscan test requires no preparation except to wear comfortable clothing. The ultrasound technician will lay the patient down on the ultrasound table and apply the gel on the patient’s liver. They will then run the probe on top of the skin of the abdomen of the patient to capture the image of the liver. The technician might position the patient to get a better image for diagnosis.
